Discover Axbridge weekend
The Axbridge Archaeological and Local History Society (AALHS) invites you to come and find out lots of things you didn’t know about Axbridge. The Great Eastern
Philip Unwin from the SS Great Britain Trust will be talking about the history of Brunel's ship "The Great Eastern" Philip is ex Royal Navy and since 2008 has been part of the team of speakers from the SS Great Britain Trust. His talk covers the contruction and eventful life of that leviathan, Brunel’s third ship, her management and mismanagement, her brief career as a passenger liner and then trans-Atlantic underwater telegraph cable layer.

Study Day 16 November 2019
In place of the November talk we will be holding a study day at Cross Memorial Hall on 16 November From 10am to 4pm and the cost will be £10 for non-members. In the morning, David Roberts will be exploring landscape archaeology through a look at the river systems of the Somerset levels and Mary Ewing will talk about what you can learn from looking at vernacular buildings.
