AGM followed by Memorial Lecture for Ken Barton

April 21, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The AGM, which was postponed in 2020 will now take place on 21 April 2021 at 7.00pm by zoom.

This will be followed by a Memorial Lecture for Ken Barton given  by our President, David Dawson.

REMEMBERING KEN BARTON (1924-2018)
“I shall be presenting a memorial lecture to my old friend, Ken Barton, on Wednesday 21 April. Why? Ken was a remarkable man, an archaeologist and museum curator; one who had a soft spot for Somerset and for the then Axbridge Caving Group and Archaeological Society with whom he worked on the excavation of the Roman villa at Star. It is worth recalling how he changed our view and understanding of pottery as a key kind of artefact, especially in our part of the world. It is also worth examining how he changed the way in which museums faced the challenges of the growing popularity of archaeology and how he determined to leave a more tangible legacy of his passion for pottery and the people who made it.”
David Dawson, President.
