Visit to Stogumber

Meet at 2pm in the churchyard opposite the White Horse Inn or inside the church if wet. Duration of visit: about 2 hours The main building of interest in Stogumber is St Mary’s, a large Norman church which still has mediaeval carvings on the outside and was sympathetically restored internally in the 1870’s.  The early C17th almshouses and the High St are also of interest. Tour of the Deanery Gardens in Wells

Mires, Miniliths and Monuments Archaeological research on Exmoor's peatlands, undertaken as part of of Exmoor Mires Partnership, will be the morning focus of the Forum. In the afternoon, the condition of their oldest monuments, Exmoor's monoliths will be examined through the result of the 2017-18 condition survey and the national perspective of the stone rows will be discussed.
